Mohawks and faux-hawks on babies and young children have become fairly popular hairstyles. However, some parents highly disagree with styling their kids’ hair in such fashion. I, on the other hand, believe it is absolutely adorable! After all, it’s just hair and it will grow back. Babies, at such young ages, can’t really make their own decisions on hairstyles anyways. Some toddlers may already have a sense for what they like or dislike and if they happen to dig Mohawks then that’s awesome.
We as parents already make a lot of decisions on our children’s behalf, including what’s in their wardrobe. So why is it such a bad thing to want to style a little Mohawk or faux-hawk? It’s actually not a bad thing at all. Some people have adverse opinions about it but that doesn’t make it wrong. Although it has always been a rebellious look, it has become a trend and more widely accepted than ever. Schools may set dress rules and guidelines on what is appropriate or what is considered distracting, so please check with your child’s school to avoid having your child being sent home.
At such a young stage in life, most of what kids wear is a parent’s decision or a reflection of their parent’s taste in fashion and personality. Childhood is gone in a flash. It really is so much fun to style up your baby and capture moments with great photos. Why not?
If you only want a Mohawk on your kid once in awhile, you may go for a faux-hawk. There are some parents willing to take a Mohawk style to the extreme by shaving the sides off. There is also the case of dying your children’s hair wild colors. I personally wouldn’t allow that for my daughters until they get older. However, I’m not going to say that parents who would allow it are bad parents or that their parenting is substandard. There are other worse things that parents can do to deserve to be called bad parents. I just don’t think that styling your child’s hair a certain way should be one of them. You can teach your child appropriateness and good manners and also let them have cool hairstyles.
Why are Mohawks on kids so controversial? It has always been a symbol of rebellion. I say it’s your child, have fun, and rock on!
